Smear and culture diagnosis in gonorrhoea.
نویسنده
چکیده
The subject of the diagnosis of gonorrhoea may be considered under three main headings apart from clinical diagnosis. The first is how far smear diagnosis is reliable and what are its limitations; the second is whether culture methods are superior to or at least adjuvant to direct microscopical observations and, if so, what the best methods may be; and the last to what extent reactions based on immunity supplement the above methods.

Gonorrhoea was not found to be a problem in antenatal patients. It was found in only one out of 625 women, thus confirming other British surveys which do not agree with the North American figures. Candidiasis is commoner than trichomoniasis (27.4 and 4.7 per cent. prevalence respectively) and culture of a high vaginal swab is more effective as a means of diagnosis than a cervical cytology smear...
متن کاملThe Comparison of Direct Microscopic Examination and Culture Results in Diagnosis of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis
Abstract Background and Objectives: one of the endemic foci for Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Iran is Mashhad in which limited outbreak have recently been reported. The commonly used method for diagnosis is the clinical features confirmed by direct microspic examination and culture or biopsy. We compared these two tests to determine the level of their sensitivity, specificity and positive predicti...
متن کاملNetilmicin: new approach to treating gonorrhoea.
Resistance and side effects to antibiotics or other chemotherapeutic agents are the main limiting factors in the treatment of gonorrhoea. As no such side effects have been reported with a new aminoglycoside, netilmicin, the therapeutic efficiency of this substance was evaluated in 1200 patients (690 women, 510 men) with uncomplicated gonorrhoea, who each received a single dose of 300 mg netilmi...
متن کاملComparison of sensitivity and specificity of PCR and sputum smear compared to culture in diagnosis of tuberculosis
Background: Molecular detection has recently been proposed by nucleic acid amplification, known as polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic method of smear and polymerase chain reaction with culture in terms of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value in the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis. Methods: In this cross-sectional...
